Pambiche

Pambiche is, and had been for a long time, Portland’s favorite Cuban restaurant. Whenever the sun comes out, you’ll see their outdoor tables fill up quickly. Even when the sun isn’t out, those tables are pretty popular. I’m not even sure what it looks like inside.

Check out the online menus for weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner.

Weekend brunch might be pan tostado dipped in cafe con leche (sounds like a dream to me), or an tortilla (omelette) with plantain. Or, try the Picadillo Comunista:Socialist Soy Hash: “Due to meat shortages and food rationing, soy hash (picadillo de soya) has become a typical part of the contemporary Cuban diet. This is Tía Miriam’s recipe made with Bob’s Red Mill High Protein T.V.P., Iberian herbs and vegetables sautéed in an olive oil and sherry wine sofrito; served with fresh avocado, white rice and ripe plantains.” I learned something new today.

For lunch and dinner, vegetarians will by and large be eating from the salad and “beans and rice” portion of the menu, with few exceptions and few complaints.

Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free items are noted on the menu. They’ve expanded these items in the last few years. Hooray! Thanks Pambiche!
