Apizza Scholls

Apizza Scholls serves good pizza, and they do it their way. They’ve been compared to the Soup Nazi for their strict rules about when and how you can get take-out pizzas, and how many toppings are allowed, let alone their reservation policy. Check the FAQ. All that aside, it’s really good pizza, in competition for best in town. Get there early for a table, or be prepared to wait an hour or more. If you go late, remember: When the dough is gone, they close for the night.

All pizzas are 18 inches, other than Saturday and Sunday lunch, when all pizzas are 11 inch personal pies.

Takeout is available for walk-ins only Monday through Thursday, or Monday through Wednesday in the busy summer season.

Check the website ahead of time to make sure they’re not on vacation.

If you’re vegan or gluten-free, you can eat here, but it might not be pizza. I didn’t find the veggie plate (roasted red peppers, mixed Italian olives, Italian semi dried tomatoes, sweet cherry peppers, Fior di Latte and grilled artichoke whole hearts, $12) worthwhile the time I tried it.
